Kirk Gunderson grew up in nearby Boyne City and moved to Charlevoix 12 years ago. He was quite familiar with Castle Farms, especially the rock concert days. As a teenager, his friends would take the Ironton Ferry over to attend concerts like Quiet Riot, ZZ Top, Beach Boys, Lover Boy, and one of his favorites, Def Leppard. After the concert venue closed Kirk didn’t think much about the Castle until he heard about a maintenance job that opened up in October of 2016. He applied, had an interview and the rest is history!
When you ask Kirk what his job involves, his answer is simple, “whatever needs to be done.” That answer truly reflects his friendly and laid back personality. His favorite part of the job is interacting with guests, giving them any information that they need. He also loves the people he works with because of the family atmosphere that has been created between coworkers. Kirk claims that he has “never worked with such great people”, which is nice to hear! You can usually find him around the property either applying a coat of paint to keep the buildings looking fresh or driving the tram out to Birch Lake to feed the ducks and fish with our guests.
In Kirk’s spare time, he likes to do work around his house and go golfing. He loves the peaceful silence that comes with the golf course because it allows him to relax and just be with his own thoughts. We are so happy to have such an awesome and friendly guy like Kirk on our team who is willing to help with any project, big or small!
